AFSCME Day on the Hill
2024 AFSCME COUNCIL 5
DAY ON THE HILL
TUESDAY, APRIL 2ND
Every year, we gather together to fight for our legislative priorities to improve the lives of our fellow union members, all working people, retirees, and communities!
Registration is available online NOW on MEMBERLINK (members.afscmemn.org).
If your local union is paying for members to attend Day on the Hill (DOTH), you may also register by connecting with your local leadership directly. Additionally, you can contact AFSCME Council 5's Member Action Center by emailing [email protected].
This year, we will be asking lawmakers to:
- Make MN the 3rd state to extend eligibility for unemployment insurance benefits to striking workers;
- Protect and strengthen the Earned Sick and Safe Time and Paid Leave laws, passed during the 2023 session;
- Invest in our workplaces by prioritizing asset preservation and maintenance requests in the places we work;
- Invest in and protect our defined-benefit pension;
- Enhance Minnesota's open meeting laws to ensure public comment periods, when offered, are a part of the public meeting, and broadcast as such, so comments from union members are a part of the meeting record and available to anyone monitoring the meeting remotely;
- Further strengthen wokers' rights and clarify changes made in 2023 to chapter 179a (Public Employment Labor Relations);
- Strengthen corporate tax accountability and transparency;
- Invest in child care affordability;
- a public health insurance option;
....and much more! And we need to show our AFSCME power!!
Our theme this year is "PROGRESS THROUGH ACTION."
The 2023 session was a historic one and moved our State forward on many of these issues; however, we're not done, and we will continue to demand action from lawmakers to make progress for working people all across our State. Join your union siblings in what is sure to be a powerful day of action at the Capitol.

The agenda for our DOTH event is available on MEMBERLINK. There is also a schedule for buses that may be available in your area to make travel easier for you.
Here is what you can expect:
- We will convene in the morning at the St. Paul RiverCentre where you'll hear an update from your AFSCME Council 5 legislative team, our members will share their perspectives as they relate to our priorities, and you'll hear from legislative guests; we'll head into breakouts where you'll prepare with other AFSCME members for your meetings with legislators.
- Then we will take buses up to the Capitol for our Rotunda Rally which begins at 1:30 p.m. At the rally, you will hear from special guests and union leaders!
- Following the rally, you will go meet with your legislators and debrief with AFSCME members and staff where refreshments will be provided.
- In-between, you can partake in a Capitol tour, sit in on legislative hearings, socialize with other AFSCME members, and find food at one of the on-site cafeterias, or weather permitting, food trucks outside.
Brunch will also be provided at the RiverCentre in the morning and light refreshments in the afternoon - all included in the $30 registration fee.
Please join us on this very special, powerful day to fight for our shared values and priorities!
We need the AFSCME Green Machine to be in full force! See you there!
